You only need two simple letters to accurately convey the big change in the tech space this year:A and me. Beyond these letters, however, there is a complex, evolving and exciting way we work, communicate and collaborate. As you will see, artificial intelligence is a common thread as we begin Microsoft Build,Our annual developer showpiece.
It's already been a milestone for the industry, starting in January with the announcement of the expansion of our partnership with OpenAI to accelerate breakthroughs in artificial intelligence and ensure these benefits are widely shared with the world. And in February, Microsoft announced an all-new AI-powered Bing search engine and Edge browser to transform the world's largest software category: search.
Since then, developments have accelerated at a rapid pace, with a number of significant milestones on the way, including:
- Its greater availabilityAzure OpenAI-servicewith additional support for ChatGPT and OpenAI's groundbreaking GPT-4 model.
- copilotfor a wide range of users, including Dynamics 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Copilot for Power Platform.
- Extending a new Bing with artificial intelligenceon the taskbar of Windows 11, mobile and Skype. Bing Image Creator for Chat. and a completely open preview of the platform, no waiting list required.
This is just the beginning of the new AI era. This is whyBuild Microsoftit's so important. At this event, we'll showcase how AI is redefining what and how developers build, and how AI is changing the future of work.
Before we get into the news, let's talk about two concepts we'll cover in depth during Microsoft Build:co-pilotsInadditions.
copilot is an application that uses modern artificial intelligence and large language models (LLM) such as GPT-4 to help people with complex tasks. Microsoft first introduced the concept of copilot nearly two years ago with GitHub Copilot, an AI peer developer that helps developers write code, and we continue to roll out copilot across many of the company's core businesses.
We believe that copilot represents both a new paradigm in AI-powered software and a profound shift in how software is built - from envisioning new product scenarios to user experience, architecture, the services it uses and the way we think about security and protection.
Plugins are tools first introduced for ChatGPT and more recently Bing that enhance the capabilities of AI systems by enabling them to interact with application programming interfaces (APIs) of other software and services to deliver information in real time. data, integrate corporate and other business data, perform new types of calculations, and securely perform actions on behalf of the user. Think of the add-ons as the connection between the copilots and the rest of the digital world.
That said, let's focus on the news and announcements we reveal during Microsoft Build.
Growing the ecosystem of AI plugins
Microsoft isto announcethat we will use the same open plug-in standard that OpenAI introduced for ChatGPT, enabling interoperability between ChatGPT and Microsoft's copilot offerings.
Developers can use nowAplatform for building plugins that work on both consumer and business interfaces, including ChatGPT, Bing, Dynamics 365 Copilot, and Microsoft 365 Copilot.
And if you want to develop and use your own plugins with the AI application built into the Azure OpenAI service, they will be interoperable with the same plugin standard by default. This means developers can create experiences that let people interact with their apps using the most natural user interface: human language.
As part of this shared plugin platform,Bing adds plugin support. In addition to the previously announced additions to OpenTable and Wolfram Alpha, we also have Expedia, Instacart, Kayak, Klarna, Redfin and Zillow in the Bing ecosystem, among others.
In addition to the shared add-on platform, Microsoft is announcing that Bing is coming to ChatGPT as the default search experience. ChatGPT now has a world-class built-in search engine to provide more up-to-date answers accessible over the internet. Now the answers are based on search and web data and include references, so users can learn more, all from the conversation. The new experience is available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers starting today and will soon be available to free users by simply activating a plugin.
Developers can now extend Microsoft 365 Copilot with add-ons
It was tooto announcethat developers can now integrate their apps and services into Microsoft 365 Copilot with plugins.
Add-ons for Microsoft 365 Copilot include ChatGPT and Bing add-ons, as well as Teams messaging extensions and Power Platform connectors, enabling developers to leverage their existing investments. And developers can easily create new plugins for Microsoft 365 Copilot with the Microsoft Teams Toolkit for Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio. Developers can also extend Microsoft 365 Copilot by bringing their data into the Microsoft Graph, tailoring relevant and actionable information with the newly announcedSemantic index for copilot.
More than 50 partner add-ons will be available to customers as part of the early access program, including Atlassian, Adobe, ServiceNow, Thomson Reuters, Moveworks, and Mural, with thousands more available through the general availability of Microsoft 365 Copilot.
New Azure AI tool to help developers build and deploy their own next-generation AI applications
It starts with our newAzure AI-studio. we aremake it simpleto integrate external data sources into the Azure OpenAI service. In addition, we would like to introduce youStream Azure Machine Learningto make it easy for developers to build prompts while leveraging popular open source command orchestration solutions like the Semantic Kernel.
InAzure OpenAI-service, which brings together advanced models including ChatGPT and GPT-4 with the business capabilities of Azure, we announceupdatesto enable developers to develop the most advanced AI models using their own data; a Distributed Delivery SKU that offers dedicated capability. and plug-ins that simplify the integration of other external data sources into a customer's use of the Azure OpenAI service. We now have over 4,500 customers using the Azure OpenAI service.
Building responsibly together
At Microsoft, we are committed to developing AI technology that impacts and earns trust, while sharing our own insights and building new tools and innovations that help developers and businesses adopt responsible AI practices in their work and organizations. implement. In Build we are introducing several new updates includingAzure AI content protection,a new Azure AI serviceto help businesses create safer online environments and communities. As part of Microsoft's commitment to building responsible AI systems, Azure AI Content Safety will be integrated into Microsoft products, including Azure OpenAI and Azure Machine Learning services.
We are also introducing new tools for Azure Machine Learning, including extensibilityResponsible AI dashboard support for text and image data,in preview, allowing users to evaluate large models built with unstructured data during model construction, training, and/or evaluation. This helps users identify model errors, fairness issues, and model statements before deploying models, for more efficient and fair computer vision and natural language processing (NLP) models. Anddirect current, soon in preview, provides an improved experience for invoking, evaluating, and tuning large language models. Users can quickly create instant workflows that connect to different language models and data sources, and evaluate the quality of their workflowsmeasurements such as groundingto choose the best prompt for their use case.Prompt Flow also integrates Azure AI Content Safety to help users detect and remove malicious content directly in their workflow.
In addition, Microsoft has announcednew opportunities for media emergencecoming to Microsoft Designer and Bing Image Creator in the coming months that allow users to verify if an image or video was created by AI. The technology uses cryptographic methods to tag and sign AI-generated content with metadata about its origin.
present Microsoft Fabric, a new unified platform for analytics
Today's world is full of data, constantly being transmitted by the devices we use, the applications we build and the interactions we have. And as we enter a new era defined by artificial intelligence, that data becomes even more important. To empower the organization AI experiences require a continuous flow of clean data from a well-managed and highly integrated analytics system. But most organizations' analytics systems are a maze of specialized and disconnected services.
Microsoft Fabricis a unified platform for analytics that spans data engineering, data integration, data warehousing, data science, real-time analytics, applied observability, and business intelligence, all connected in a single data warehouse called OneLake.
It enables customers of all technical levels to experience the possibilities in a single, unified experience. It is infused with the Azure OpenAI service at every level to help customers unleash the full potential of their data, empowering developers to harness the power of generative artificial intelligence to find insights in their data.
MetCopilot on Microsoft Fabricin any data experience, customers can use the conversational language to create data flows and pipelines, build code and full functions, build machine learning models, or visualize results. Customers can even build their own conversational language experiences that combine Azure OpenAI service models and their data and publish them as plugins.
Accelerating an AI future through partners
Our customers benefit from our partner partnerships, such as with NVIDIA, which enable organizations to design, develop, deploy, and manage applications with the scale and security of Azure. NVIDIA accelerates the creation of enterprise-ready artificial intelligence with Enterprise Integration NVIDIA AI with Azure machine learning. Omniverse Cloud, available only on Azure, enables organizations to aggregate data into massive, powerful models, connect domain-specific software tools, and enable live collaboration between multiple users at factory locations. NVIDIA GPUs using the ONNX Runtime & Olive toolchain support the deployment of accelerated AI models without deep hardware knowledge.
New features for Microsoft Dev Box
Microsoft Dev Box, an Azure service that gives developers access to code-ready, project-specific developer boxes that are preconfigured and centrally managed, isintroduction of many new featuresto improve the developer experience and increase productivity. In the preview, we've seen many customers experiment with Dev Box, and we've moved over 9,000 in-house developers to the service for day-to-day software development.
Now we have added additional features and functions including;customization using configuration as codeand newsimages from launcher developersin the Azure Marketplace that provide development teams with ready-made images that can be further customized to meet the specific needs of the development team. In addition, developers can now manage custom environments fromdedicated developer portal, Azure deployment environments;. General availability of the Dev Box will begin in July.
Unveiling a new home for developers in Windows 11 with Dev Home
Developer houseit will be released in Microsoft Build in preview as a new Windows experience that developers can get from the Microsoft Store.
Dev Home makes it easy to connect to GitHub and configure cloud development environments such as Microsoft Dev Box and GitHub Codespaces. Dev Home is open source and fully extensible, empowering developers to enhance their experience with a customizable dashboard and the tools they need to succeed.
Meet Windows Copilot for Windows 11
Last fall, Chief Product Officer Panos Panai spoke at the launch of Windows and Surface about the power of artificial intelligence to unlock new models of computer interaction with Windows Studio Effects and DALL-E 2 in Microsoft Designer, and at CES he spoke about how artificial intelligence is going to reinvent the way people do things on Windows.
This brings us toWindows copilot.
Windows will be the first PC platform to bring AI support together at launchWindows copilot. Together with Bing Chat and 1st and 3rd party plugins, users can focus on turning their ideas into reality, completing complex projects, and collaborating instead of expending energy finding, launching, and working across multiple apps.
This builds on the integration released in Windows 11 in February that brought the new AI-powered Bing to the taskbar.
A preview of Windows Copilot will be available for Windows 11 in June.
As you can see, it's going to be a busy time at Microsoft Build. To give you an idea of what developers will experiencethe fact, we expect approximately 200,000 registered participants, with 350 sessions and over 125 hours of content over two days. In total, we will announce more than 50 new products and features.
